Effects of Partial Replacement of Corn by Millet on Reproductive Performance and Serum Indexes of Female Rabbits
The aim of this experiment was to study the effects of partial replacement of corn by millet on repro-ductive performance, serum reproductive hormones, biochemical, immune and antioxidant indexes of female rabbits.A total of 180 Ira female rabbits with similar body weight and parity(3 to 5 parities)and good health were randomly divided into 6 groups according to the principle of weight equivalence, with 30 rabbits in each group, and each rabbit fed in a single cage. The rabbits in the control group(CN group)were fed a basal diet, and others in the experimental groups were fed experimental diets in which 5%(HY5%group),10%(HY10%group),15%(HY15%group),20%(HY20%group)and 25%(HY25%group)millet were used to replace some corn in the basal diet, respectively. The pretest period was 7 days and the formal period was 70 days. The results showed as follows:1)compared with the CN group, the weaning weight of litter in the HY15%,HY20%and HY25%groups was significantly increased(P<0.05),the number of weaned litters in the HY15%group was significantly increased(P<0.05).2)Compared with the CN group, serum prolactin content was significantly increased at day 21 of lactation in the HY15%and HY20%groups(P<0.05).3)Compared with the CN group, the serum total protein content at day 21 of lactation in the HY15%and HY20%groups was significantly increased(P<0.05).4)Compared with the CN group, the superoxide dismutase con-tent in serum of the HY10%,HY15%,HY20%and HY25%groups was significantly increased at day 35 of lactation(P<0.05).In conclusion, considering the reproductive performance, serum reproductive hormones, biochemical, immune and antioxidant indexes of female rabbits, the partial replacement of corn by millet has no negative effect on female rabbits, indicating that millet can be used as energy feed for female rabbits;repla-cing part of corn with millet in the diet of female rabbits can promote the secretion of prolactin, increase the weaning litter weight of young rabbits, and enhance the antioxidant capacity of the body.Under the conditions of this experiment, the effect of 15%millet is the best.[Chinese Journal of Animal Nutrition,2024,36(11):7262-7274]
