Evaluation of Nutritional Value and Rumen Degradation Characteristics of Six Water Buffalo Feedstuffs
This experiment was conducted to study the nutritional value and rumen degradation characteristics of six water buffalo feedstuffs.Three healthy water buffaloes with similar body weight and permanent rumen fistula were selected for the study and were housed in tie-stalls.The conventional nutrient contents and the ru-men effective degradation rates of dry matter(DM),crude protein(CP)and organic matter(OM)in corn,soybean meal,wheat bran,distiller's grains,corn stalk silage and peanut vine were determined,and the con-tents of rumen degradable nitrogen(RDN)and fermentable organic matter(FOM)in these six water buffalo feedstuffs were calculated.The results show that:1)the rumen effective degradation rates of DM in wheat bran,corn,soybean meal,distiller's grains,corn stalk silage and peanut vine were 59.88％,65.18％,67.51％,50.01％,57.38％and 60.48％,the rumen effective degradation rates of CP were 71.95％,61.56％,58.84％,52.35％,54.86％and 52.56％,and the rumen effective degradation rates of OM were 59.24％,65.10％,65.89％,49.22％,57.61％and 61.40％,respectively.2)The FOM contents in wheat bran,corn,soybean meal,distiller's grains,corn stalk silage and peanut vine were 0.56,0.64,0.62,0.46,0.53 and 0.58 kg/kg,and the RDN contents were 18.77,10.70,45.93,23.97,10.93 and 10.61 g/kg,respectively.In conclusion,in concentrates,the corn and soybean meal have relatively high feeding value and are high-qual-ity feedstuffs for water buffalo;in roughage,the corn stalk silage and peanut vine have relatively high feeding value and are relatively high-quality roughage raw materials for water buffalo.When formulating water buffalo diets,they should be properly combined.[Chinese Journal of Animal Nutrition,2024,36(12):7819-7828]
