Effects of Artemisia argyi Aqueous Extract on Growth Performance,Nutrient Apparent Digestibility and Intestinal Related Indices of Dorper×Thin-Tailed Han Crossbred Sheep
This experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of different supplemental levels of Artemisia argyi aqueous extract(AAE)on growth performance, nutrient apparent digestibility and intestinal related indi-ces of Dorper×thin-tailed Han crossbred sheep.Thirty-two 3-month-old healthy Dorper×thin-tailed Han cross-bred ewes with similar body weight were randomly divided into 4 groups with 8 replicates per group and 1 sheep per replicate.Sheep in the control group were fed a basal diet, and those in the experimental groups were fed the basal diet supplemented with 500,1 000 and 1 500 mg/kg AAE,respectively. The pre-trial period las-ted for 15 days and the experimental period lasted for 60 days, which were divided into two stages as the early stage(days 1 to 30)and the late stage(days 31 to 60).The results showed as follows:1)with the increase of AAE supplemental level,in the early stage of the experiment, the ratio of feed to gain(F/G)was linearly decreased(P<0.05),the dry matter apparent digestibility was quadratically changed(P<0.05),and the ap-parent digestibilities of ether extract(EE)and neutral detergent fiber(NDF)were linearly increased and qua-dratically changed(P<0.01);in the late stage of the experiment, the apparent digestibilities of EE,NDF and acid detergent fiber were linearly increased and quadratically changed(P<0.05).2)With the increase of AAE supplemental level, the activities of α-amylase and lipase in duodenum were linearly increased and quadratically changed(P<0.05),the lipase activity in jejunum was linearly increased and quadratically changed(P<0.01),and the trypsin activity in ileum was linearly increased(P<0.05).3)With the increase of AAE sup-plemental level, the crypt depth(CD)in jejunum was linearly decreased(P<0.01)and quadratically changed(P<0.05);the villus height(VH)in ileum was linearly increased(P<0.05),the CD in ileum was quadrati-cally changed(P<0.05),and the VH/CD ratio in ileum was linearly increased and quadratically changed(P<0.05).4)With the increase of AAE supplemental level,on day 60 of the experiment, the total anaerobe num-ber in feces was linearly decreased and quadratically changed(P<0.05),and the Bifidobacterium number in feces was linearly increased and quadratically changed(P<0.05).In conclusion, dietary supplementation of AAE can increase the nutrient apparent digestibility and intestinal digestive enzyme activity, improve intestinal morphology and microbial homeostasis, thereby improving intestinal function and decreasing F/G of Dorperx thin-tailed Han crossbred sheep.According to the quadratic regression analysis, the effect of dietary 1 030 mg/kg AAE for Dorper×thin-tailed Han crossbred is better.[Chinese Journal of Animal Nutrition,2024,36(12):7854-7865]
