Temporal and Spatial Variations of Complex Stomach Fermentation Function,Bacterial Relative Density and Volatile Fatty Acids Transport Gene Expression of Tibetan Sheep in Different Phenological Periods
This experiment was conducted to study the temporal and spatial variations of complex stomach(ru-men,reticulum,omasum and abomasum)fermentation function, bacterial relative density and volatile fatty acids(VFAs)transport gene expression of Tibetan sheep in different phenological periods(regreening period, green grass period and grass withering period).Eighteen healthy 1-year-old Tibetan sheep ewes were selected, six ewes were slaughtered in regreening period(May),green grass period(August)and grass withering peri-od(December),respectively,to determine the bacterial relative density,VFAs concentration and VFAs trans-port gene relative expression level in compound stomach of Tibetan sheep in different phenological periods, and the correlation analysis was conducted. The results showed as follows:1)in rumen, reticulum, omasum and abomasum, the total volatile fatty acids(TVFAs),acetic acid and propionic acid concentrations in green grass period were significantly higher than those in regreening period and grass withering period(P<0.05).2)In rumen, reticulum, omasum and abomasum, there were significant variations in the relative expression levels of VFAs transport genes in different phenological periods.3)In rumen and reticulum, the Butyrivibrio fibrisolvens and Selenomonas ruminantium relative densities in green grass period were significantly higher than those in re-greening period and grass withering period(P<0.05).In omasum and abomasum, the Ruminococcus albus relative density in regreening period was significantly higher than that in green grass period and grass withering period(P<0.05).4)There was extremely significant negative correlation between valeric acid concentration and Ruminococcus albus relative density(P<0.01),there was significant positive correlation between isobutyr-ic acid concentration and Selenomonas ruminantium(P<0.05),and there was significant positive correlation a-mong acetic acid, propionic acid, isobutyric acid, butyric acid, isovaleric acid concentrations and monocar-boxylate transporter 1 gene relative expression level(P<0.05 or P<0.01).In summary, there are differences and interactions among VFAs concentration, bacterial relative density and VFAs transport gene relative expres-sion level in compound stomach of Tibetan sheep in different phenological periods, and this interaction plays an important role in plateau adaptability of Tibetan sheep.[Chinese Journal of Animal Nutrition,2024,36(12):7866-7878]
