Effects of Lactobacillus reuteri LRA7 on Health Condition,Nutrient Apparent Digestibility,Immune Function and Antioxidant Capacity of Beagle Dogs
The aim of this experiment was to investigate the effects of dietary Lactobacillus reuteri LRA7 on health condition, nutrient apparent digestibility, immune function and antioxidant capacity of beagle dogs.Thir-ty-two adult healthy Beagles with similar body weight were selected and randomly divided into four groups with eight dogs in each group.Dogs in the control group(CON group)were fed a basal diet, and others in probiot-ic addition groups were fed basal diets supplemented with 2×10 8,2×10 9 and 2×10 10 CFU/d Lactobacillus reu-teri LRA7,respectively.The pre-test period was 7 d,and the formal period was 28 d.The results showed as follows:1)there were no significant differences in health indices such as body temperature, respiratory rate, pulse, fecal scores, growth performance and blood routine of dogs(P>0.05).2)There was no significant difference in dry matter, crude protein, crude ash,and carbohydrate apparent digestibility of dogs(P>0.05).The ether extract apparent digestibility of MR group was significantly higher than that of the CON and LR groups(P<0.05).3)The serum urea nitrogen(UN)content of HR group was significantly lower than that of other groups(P>0.05),and the serum secretory immunoglobulin A(sIgA)content was significantly higher than that of CON and LR groups(P<0.05).4)The serum superoxide dismutase(SOD)activity of MR and HR groups was significantly higher than that of CON and LR groups(P<0.05),the serum glutathione peroxi-dase(GSH-Px)activity of LR,MR and HR groups was significantly higher than that of CON group(P<0.05),and the serum malondialdehyde(MDA)content of HR group was significantly lower than that of other groups(P<0.05).In conclusion,Lactobacillus reuteri LRA7 has no adverse effects on the growth and health status of beagle dogs, can increase the ether extract apparent digestibility, improve immune function and an-tioxidant capacity, and this strain can be used as a candidate strain for probiotic products of canine origin.[Chi-nese Journal of Animal Nutrition,2024,36(12):7995-8004]
