Effects of Nano-Fish Oil on Hair Quality and Serum Antioxidant Indexes,Vitamin and Trace Element Contents of Cats
The aim of this experiment was to study the effects of nano-fish oil on hair quality and serum antiox-idant indexes, vitamin and trace element contents of short-haired cats.Twenty short-haired cats were randomly divided into 4 groups with 5 cats in each group. The nano-fish oil group was fed 2 mL nano-fish oil[containing 60 mg eicosapentaenoic acid(EPA)+docosahexaenoic acid(DHA)]per cat per day on the basis of the full-price basal diet.Fish oil group was fed 2 mL of common fish oil(containing 60 mg EPA+DHA)per cat per day,high-dose fish oil group was fed 1 mL of common fish oil(containing 300 mg EPA+DHA)per cat per day,and control group was fed 2 mL of distilled water per day.The experiment lasted for 28 days. The results showed as follows:cmpared with the control group,nano-fish oil significantly improved the hair scale length(P<0.01),significantly increased the serum total antioxidant capacity(T-AOC)(P<0.05),the activity of superoxide dismutase(SOD)(P<0.01),and significantly decreased the content of malondialdehyde(MDA)in serum(P<0.01).Meanwhile,the contents of vitamin D3 and trace element zinc in serum of nano-fish oil group were significantly higher than those of control group(P<0.05),and the contents of vitamin A,vitamin D2 and trace element selenium in serum of nano-fish oil group were significantly higher than those of control group(P<0.01).In conclusion, feeding 2 mL nano-fish oil per cat per day can effectively improve the hair growth quality, the body's antioxidant capacity and the serum vitamin A,vitamin D and trace elements selenium, zinc and calcium contents of cats.[Chinese Journal of Animal Nutrition,2024,36(12):8005-8013]
