New Research Universities:Advantages,Challenges,and Prospects
In the process of the strategic game between China and the United States,the strategic position of cultivating top-notch innovative talents is further highlighted,and the proposition of building the new research university is born from this.The development of new research universities in China not only has obvious advantages as latecomers,but also faces a series of severe challenges.With strong support from national policies,actively drawing on the successful experience of emerging research universities internationally,actively absorbing the reform achievements of domestic research universities,daring to reform and innovate,becoming a unique advantage for the development of new research universities,and demonstrating six characteristics:new starting point,new form,new system,new perspective,new model,and new mechanism.At the same time,new research universities also face five major challenges,such as policy dependence,single financial resources,insufficient originality,reliance on rankings and insufficient characteristics,all of which have become huge tests for the development of new research universities.In the future,new research universities should start with the construction of an innovative and entrepreneurial culture,focus on building a mechanism for the integration of industry and education,and achieve breakthroughs in the construction of innovative and entrepreneurial universities.
