The Reflection of Educational Meritocracy and its Transcendence
Meritocracy highlights distributive justice with the concept of deserve, which aligns with the concept of educational justice.Modern education follows the value orientation of meritocracy, which gives people equal educational opportunities, promotes individual diligence, and advocates the distribution based on the "deserve" of individual efforts, becoming an important engine of social mobility. However, while demonstrating the justice of education, meritocracy also puts education in a difficult position.Educational meritocracy induces the self-exploitation of educational subjects with elite expectations, hinders the closeness between individuals and others with the competition of merit, and obscures the diversity of students' achievements with linear logic. In order to reverse this dilemma, educational meritocracy should return to the ontological value of education and recognize the limited nature of education in its derivative functions;reshape the compound justice view of education, pursuing the justice of recognition and human development based on distributive justice;and establish a three-dimensional view of achievement to facilitate the diversified growth of educational subjects.
