The Integration of the Academy System into the Modern University Education System:How to Inherit and Innovate?
In recent years,many domestic universities have actively implemented the academy system,with a view to solving some problems in contemporary higher education.The 'college+academy' management method,a key component of this system,has been instrumental in addressing these issues.The Yuelu Academy of Hunan University,as one of the four major ancient academies,has taken 'preaching and helping the people' and 'moral education first' as its educational purposes,'humanistic pragmatism' and 'seeking truth from facts' as its educational pursuits,'teacher and student learning together' and 'lecturing and debating' as its educational methods.This model has made important contributions to the inheritance of academic ethics,the cultivation of study style and morale,and the improvement of national literacy.Yuelu Academy,which upholds the concept of 'taking the lead of Zhu and Zhang and the strengths of the West',has always emphasized the combination of Chinese and Western cultures,and the integration of the ancient and the modern.In 2009,with the enrollment of history undergraduates as an opportunity,Yuelu Academy gave full play to the advantages of the ancient academy,actively responded to the reform needs of modern higher education,and began to implement the 'four-in-one' undergraduate tutoring system.Over the past fifteen years,Yuelu Academy has made great progress in both talent training and discipline development,as well as in cultural dissemination and social services.This dialogue on the spirit of academy education,academy culture,academy talent cultivation,university academy system and the construction of new liberal arts aims to provide lessons for deepen the reform of university academy system,promote the dissemination and exchange of fine traditional Chinese culture and the modernization of Chinese-style higher education.
