Fan Xiao attaches great importance to innovation.Theory innovation,method innovation and system inno-vation are the three important aspects of his language research.In theory,he strongly advocated the three parts of"lan-guage","tongue"and"discourse",insisting that"tongue,language and discourse are produced at the same time";The for-mer has been accepted by more and more academic colleagues because it is in line with the development trend of the disci-pline,while the latter has been confirmed by the research on the origin of language conducted by Wang Shiyuan in recent years.In terms of methods,he actively advocated the combination of syntax,semantics and pragmatics to carry out gram-mar research,and constantly explored the application of dynamic and static combination in grammar research.He pro-posed earlier that the study of syntax laws should be based on static phrases,and relevant practices played a leading role.In the system,he followed Zhu Dexi,Hu Yushu,Zhang Bin and other grammarians before him,devoted more than 30 years of effort to fully shoulder the"three-dimensional grammar"(that is,"the theory of three planes")system construction.Its cor-rect view of language and advanced methodology provide strong support for ensuring the scientific nature of the system.
