The OV word order is a special sentence pattern in ancient Chinese, and its particularity is mainly reflected in the verb before the object.Different from the previous emphasis on the prepositional object description, this paper focus-es on the composition, semantic characteristics and pragmatic functions of the prepositional object. In terms of composi-tion,the prepositional object is composed of body part, predicate part and subject-predicate structure. In terms of semantic characteristics,it has the characteristics of referring to the same and referring to other. In terms of pragmatic function,it has the function of highlighting focus, textual cohesion and contrast.A comprehensive study of the prepositional object will not only help us to fully understand the characteristics of the prepositional object, but also help us to more clearly understand the nature of ancient Chinese OV word order and the establishment of Chinese grammar history.More importantly,it can provide corpus support for the enrichment and perfection of linguistic typology theory.
