On the Relationship between the Heart Sutra Cave of Huangze Temple in Guangyuan and Empress Wu Zetian
The Heart Sutra Writing Caves at Huangze Temple in Guangyuan City was excavated in the early Tang Dy-nasty.There are two Tang steles now.Among them, the"Shakyamuni Statue Remnant Stele"has lacked too many charac-ters,and it is difficult to verify its specific content. The text of another stele,"Record of Repairing the Western Niche Bud-dha Pavilion",is also mostly missing, but the main content and the monument maker can still be verified.According to the text stored in the"Record of Repairing the Western Niche Buddha Pavilion",combined with the newly released Tang Dy-nasty historical materials"Catalogue of Emperors"and local historical records,it can be determined that the monument maker should be Cui Pu,the governor of Lizhou. The inscription records that Ms.Yang, the wife of the former governor Wu Shiyue, gave birth to Empress Wu Zetian in Lizhou in the second year of the Zhenguan reign(AC 628),and there is a close relationship between Wu Zetian and the Heart Sutra Writing Cave.
