The interaction between"race"and"ethics"——The Pan Southeast Asia experience in Eileen Chang's literature
For a long time, the issue of"race"has often been seen as Eileen Chang's intellectual interest."Race"as a certain perspective has become a constituent factor throughout her literary creation. It not only gave birth to the internal driving force of Eileen Chang's early literary creation, but also shaped her unique"Pan Southeast Asian"experience when traveling overseas in the later period. In terms of specific literary expressions,Eileen Chang initially employed her"racial"perspective was first used to respond to the complex emotional entangle-ment between her and her mother. She incorporated and reshaped the ethical aspect of her mother with knowl-edge of"ethnology",thus achieving a"racialized"expression of ethics. In its literary presentation of the Great Migration route, the issue of"race"in anthropological knowledge is once again integrated into the ethical family world. In the interaction between"race"and"ethics",Southeast Asia, which has become increasingly strategically important since World War II,has become a key spiritual hub.It is not only a medium for emo-tional transformation from"the world at home"to"the home in the world",but also a psychological space that carries Eileen Chang's hope for"great harmony"and a reflection on"home country".
