On the"top confidential file"in writing Soviet Russia in China:also on the exchanges between Tao Xisheng and early figures of the Communist Party of China
As Chiang Kai shek's speechwriter,Tao Xisheng left to the world a top confidential file in writing Soviet Russia in China for Chiang. To explore the origin and causes of this case,we can have a glimpse of the Kuo-mintang's cultural and propaganda operation mode in Taiwan,China in the 1950s.Analyzing Chiang Kai shek's handwritten annotations helps modern people understand Chiang Kai shek's mentality of portraying the history of defeat and his self reflection after the defeat in Taiwan.Several errors in this file also reflect Tao Xisheng's insufficient knowledge of the early figures and organizations of the Chinese Communist Party. He was, after all,a"scholar-official"in politics. He had close relationships with many early figures of Commu-nist Parties, particularly with Chen Duxiu. There are some misunderstandings in the historical records of the friendship between Tao and Chen on both sides of the Taiwan Strait, which need to be clarified.Tao Xisheng's academic writings were sealed off in 1937,but his political writings, although not personally signed, were able to continue to influence Chinese history under the name of Chiang Kai shek. The discovery and disclosure of the"top confidential file"have enriched and expanded the contemporary understanding of Tao Xisheng and the Chiang government's cultural and propaganda system in which he lives to a certain extent.
