A new discussion on"唐取帚好"in oracle bone inscriptions
The oracle bone inscriptions of"tang qu zhu hao"(唐取帚好)in Shang Dynasty refers to the selection of women from the"zhu hao"(帚好)clan to perform the sweeping corvee in the ancestral temple of Cheng Tang."tang"(唐)represents both the spirit of Cheng Tang and the ancestral temple dedicated to him."qu"(取)means"to select"."zhu"(帚)stands for sweeping corvee, and"好"is the name of the clan."zhu hao"(帚好)is a certain corvee which actually stands for the responsibility of a clan, not referring to any particular in-dividual.Understanding"tang qu zhu hao"(唐取帚好)of the oracle bone inscriptions helps to explore the Assigned Labor System during Shang Dynasty and further the discussion on the identity of tomb owner in Tomb No.5 of the Yin Ruins.
