The evolution and revival of recognition theory from the perspective of social ontology——On the transcendence of Marx's recognition thought
On the level of social ontology, recognition serves as an empirical intermediary connecting individual particu-larity with universality. Both Aristotle's"friendship"and Hegel's"recognition"have been pivotal for indi-viduals to grasp universality. However, once modernity loses the protection of a dominant"One"(state/commu-nity),it becomes necessary to rediscover a universality that can"resolve the contradiction between the individ-ual and the species"on an empirical basis. As a result, recognition has experienced a contemporary revival due to its function in the experiential link.Honneth's acceptances of Mead's social psychology,Fraser's folk para-digm and Ricoeur's"gift experience"are all experiential attempts, but they merely revive Hegel's"objective spirit"in a one-dimensional manner under the cover of ideology.Only by returning to Marx and establishing recognition on the basis of the universality of"socialized mass production"from the perspective of political economy, and using"exchange value"as the starting point to uncover the truth of the conflict between"indi-vidual and class",can we provide a realistic plan for contemporary society in the"myth"of identity created by"multiculturalism"and move towards a community of free individuals.
