Small and medium-sized enterprises(SMEs)are an important part of the manufac-turing industry.In the process of growth and expansion of manufacturing SMEs,accompanied by changes in quality capability and quality demand,they usually follow the quality development law of gradual development and spiral upward.Starting from the characteristics of SMEs at different stages of development,a proposal on the path of step-by-step improvement of quality devel-opment from the stage of quality inspection,quality assurance,total quality management to the stage of preventable and trustworthy quality in the context of SMEs gradual growth in scale is put forward.
