Failure Mechanism Analysis of Voltage Relay Indicator Light Flashing Phenomenon
Voltage relays are widely used in power systems as protective devices. The causes of voltage relay indicator light flashing phenomenon are analyzed based on the failure analysis method of PCBA. Combined with the circuit and test results of the relay, the failed thin film capacitor is located through non-destructive analysis and destructive analysis step by step. After further analysis of the failed thin film,it is confirmed that the internal electrode foil of the thin film capacitor is corroded and oxidized, resulting in a decrease in capacity, which causes the fluctuations of VCC power supply, and finally causes the alarm light flashing of voltage relay. It is recommended that using better packaging in high humidity environments to avoid oxidation and corrosion of thin film capacitors.
