Seismicity anomalies before Mangshi Ms 5.0 earthquake on December 2,2023
This paper summarizes the seismicity anomalies before the Ms 5.0 earthquake in Mangshi,Yunnan Province on December 2,2023.It is found that there are medium-term,short-term,and imminent anomalies before the Mangshi earthquake. In the medium-term stage, the M ≥ 5.0 earthquakes in western Yunnan have the east-west migration rule, and the ML ≥ 4.0 earthquakes migrate from northwest Yunnan to west Yunnan. In the medium and short-term stages, the small and medium earthquakes in the west of Yunnan region are significantly enhanced, magnitude 3-4 earthquakes formed a seismogenic gap,and ML ≥ 3.0 earthquakes formed a seismic belt.In the short-term stage,an impending earthquake and a precursor swarm appear, and foreshocks occur 10 days before the Mangshi Ms 5.0 earthquake. It is concluded that the occurrence of the impending earthquake and precursor swarm is a sign that the seismogenic process has changed from the medium-term to the short-imminent stage.
