Characteristics of Far-Field Ground Motion of Wenchuan Earthquake and the Effect on Long-Periodic Structures
After the Wenchuan M 8.0 extraordinary earthquake occurred in Sichuan province on May 12, lots of digital strong motion records are gained by the China Digital Strong Motion Seismograph Network. The records, especially far-field records, provide ample ground motion component of long period structures. According to the digital strong motion records of several South-East provinces, the characteristics of far-field ground motion of the Wenchuan M 8. 0 extraordinary earthquake are analyzed, and the long-period ground motion characteristics of deep and soft soil sites and rock sites and their differences are researched. Based on the characteristics of the long-period structures, the seismic response analysis of structure is carried out using the super-long seismic records of the A050 strong ground motion station, which was built on the site with deep and soft soil layers. The effects of far-field ground motion on long-periodic structures during Wenchuan M8.0 extraordinary earthquake are researched, and some noticeable and thoughtful issues in earthquake resistance of long-period structures and earthquake safety countermeasures are put forward according to the actual characteristics of earthquake disasters.
