The Permian is an important period of manganese enrichment in South China. This article takes the manganese-bearing rock series of the Lihuo manganese deposit in Shuicheng District, western Guizhou Province as the research object, attempting to analyze the lithofacies and paleogeography that controlled the Permian manganese formation in Guizhou, and to discuss the sources and genesis of manganese, sedimentary environment, and manganese precipitation methods.Optical microscopy,XRF,XRD,and ICP-MS were utilized to analyze and test the mineral composition, major, trace, and rare earth elements of the manganese-bearing rock series, roof, and floor of the Lihuo manganese deposit in Shuicheng District. The results indicate that the manganese-bearing rock series was formed in the internal rift basin of the extensional platform.Hot water sedimentary minerals such as barite, gypsum, celestite, rhodochrosite, and siderite were discovered in the manganese ores, and typical layered structures of hot water sedimentary and siliceous metasomatic texture of feldspar phenocry stallographic caused by volcanic activity were developed. They are rich in hot water sedimentary elements such as Fe,Mn,Co,Ni,V,and Mo,and have a significant negative Ce/Ce* anomaly of rare earth distribution pattern. The geochemical diagrams of Mn/Fe,SiO2/Al2O3,Al2O3/TiO2,Co/Ni,Co/Zn,Y/Ho values, and Fe-Mn-(Cu+Co+Ni)×10,Co Ni Zn,Co/Zn vs.(Cu+Co+Ni),LogU/LogTh,and Fe/Ti vs.Al/(Al+Fe+Mn)show the hydrothermal sedimentary origin of the Lihuo manganese deposit in Shuicheng District. The V/Cr,V/(V+Ni),and Ceanom characteristic values indicate that the manganese deposit was formed in an oxidizing, weakly oxidizing to weakly reducing marine sedimentary environment.Based on comprehensive geological and geochemical characteristics, the manganese mineralization has undergone geological evolution process of initial precipitation of iron manganese oxides(hydroxides)and transformation of iron manganese oxide(hydroxides)phases into rhodochrosite phases.
