Discovery and significance of the Z.Brdo Large Gold Deposit in Eastern Serbia
The Z.Brdo gold deposit is a new type of large gold deposit discovered in the Timok volcanic belt, eastern Serbia in recent years. It is another prospecting breakthrough in the Timok volcanic belt after the discovery of the C.Peki porphyry type Cu-Au deposit. On the basis of field work, combined with rock and ore identification, primary halo research, and compared with typical high-sulfur,intermediate-sulfur and low-sulfur deposits, this work analyzed the geological characteristics, geophysical and geochemical anomalies, genetic types of the deposit and the genetic relationship with the porphyry metallogenic system. It is concluded that:(1)The deposit is controlled by the NW-trending fault system and occurs at the lithologic interface of the mud biotite hornblende andesitic pyroclastic rock(K2ωαhb)and the sericitic porphyritic hornblende plagioclastic andesite(Pgαq),which is generally consistent with the ore-controlling structure and lithologic interface of the porphyry and high-sulfur deposits in the district.(2)The surrounding alterations include kaolinization, montmorillization, sericitization, chloritization, calcilization. The ore is composed of brecciated and stocked quartz-calcite-barite-pyrite-arsenic pyrite. The endowment is closely related to breccia. The higher degree of the breccia and the more veins is,the better the gold mineralization and enrichment is.(3)The aeromagnetic survey shows that the northwest-trending fault structure is the main ore-controlled structure, the IP survey shows that the ore body exhibits low resistivities and high chargeabilities, and the primary halo survey shows that the ore-bearing structural alteration zone displays the zoning of the front halo Ba-Ag-Zn 1→ the near halo As-Sb-Au→ the tailings halo Pb-Zn 2-Cu.The above complex shows that the Z.Brdo gold deposit is an epithermal gold deposit controlled by fault structure. The discovery of the Z.Brdo gold deposit indicates that there is still potential in the exploration of porphyry → epithermal ore-forming system in the Timok volcanic belt. The next step is to refer to the geological, geophysical and geochemical anomalies characteristics of Z.Brdo gold deposit to carry out prospecting and exploration of similar gold deposits in this district.
