CHARACTERISTICS AND ENGINEERING INVESTIGATION ISSUES OF RED LAYER COMPRISING GYPSUM AND GLAUBERITE SALT IN CHENGDU CITY
The red layer containing gypsum and glauberite Salt in Chengdu City produces different degree of dissolution under the action of environmental water, and the environmental water produced under the dissolution produces sulfate corrosion on underground structures,Which leads to engineering problems. This pape studies and summarizes the distribution characteristics, material composition, rock mass structure, and physical-mechanical properties of Red Layer comprising gypsum and glauberite Salt in Chengdu City.It is found that the red beds in Chengdu have a wide distribution range, complex material composition, and rock mass structure. The red beds contain gypsum and glauberite salt mudstone(or sandstone),gypsum and glauberite Salt rock,as well as clayey(or sandy)gypsum and glauberite salt rock. These rocks are all categorized as soft rocks, with significant variations in their physical-mechanical properties. Moreover, the gypsum and glauberite salt red beds are prone to dissolution, leading to the formation of sinkholes or dissolution cavities.Based on these characteristics, this paper discusses the engineering investigation issues related to Red Layer comprising gypsum and glauberite Salt in Chengdu City.
