Abstract
With the article"Two Concepts of Liberty",Isaiah Berlin,who is a twentieth-century British thinker,won wide acclaim in the Western European world,yet insufficient attention has been paid to the questions of Berlin's Russian identity,Russian study,and their influence on the development of Berlin's thought of liberalism and pluralism.This article will focus on the important question of Berlin's relationship with Russian culture,regarding Berlin as a successor of Belinsky's tradition of social and literary criticism,and exploring the intricate interactions among Berlin,Herzen and Turgenev,and then incorporating Berlin's study of Russian Culture into his discussion of the general issues of 'liberty'and'plurality'.Finally,this article will describe a clear picture of the positive role that Russian culture played in Berlin's exploration of liberalism and pluralism,and the cosmopolitan significance that Berlin gave to Russian culture.
