Outer-Rotor Toroidal-Windings Permanent Magnet Vernier Machine with High-Torque Density
The end length of toroidal windings is notably shorter than that of traditional distributed windings, which contributes to improve the torque density of electric machine.Con-sequently,this paper innovatively introduces a new type of outer-rotor permanent magnet vernier machine with toroidal windings, the design of which effectively shortens the length of end wind-ings through adopting the toroidal windings, and then decreases the overall volume of the ma-chine while retaining a high magnetic field modulation ratio.Furthermore, combining the outer rotor with the toroidal windings significantly increases the torque density of the machine. In or-der to verify the design effect, the finite-element method was adopted to compare and analyze the no-load back electromotive force, output torque, overload performance and other character-istics of the proposed toroidal windings machine with that of the conventional distributed wind-ings machine.Ultimately,a prototype was manufactured and tested, the experimental results has aligned closely with the expectation values.
