Reducing carbon emissions in the building industry is a crucial pathway towards achieving the"Dual-Carbon Goals"(realizing carbon peak before 2030 and carbon neutrality before 2060)in China.Technological innovation is a vital factor in promoting low-carbon transformation in the building industry. This paper assesses the development of building carbon neutral technologies by analyzing the patents of relevant technologies and discusses the focusing areas and future trends. The study reveals that the number of granted patents related to building carbon-neutral technologies has increased significantly in recent years, indicating that technological innovation has made considerable progress.Nonetheless, there are still some challenges such as the unbalanced development of regional innovation and the insufficient value of patent innovation. The results of the study also indicate that the use of renewable energy in buildings and improvement of building electrification are the key areas of innovation and development. In the future, the development of carbon-neutral technologies in buildings will focus more on sustainability, intelligence, and greening, which will become the mainstream.Concurrently, the prospective evolution of carbon-neutral building technology will prioritize the intermingling of technology, industry, and market with the objective of facilitating the transformation of the entire industry pattern. The insights in this paper can serve as a foundation for the advancement of carbon neutrality in the construction industry and the policymaking for stimulating technological innovation.
