The Influence Mechanism of After-school Services on Parents'Educational Anxiety:An Empirical Analysis Based on the Propensity Score Matching Method
The alleviation of parental educational anxiety is a pressing concern in the current education reform. While previous studies have empirically analyzed the relationship between after-school services and parental educational anxiety, they have not thoroughly explored the transmission and regulation mechanisms through which after-school services impact this anxiety. Therefore, based on 10,947 parent questionnaires from primary and secondary schools in 152 prefectural-level cities in China, this study employs propensity score matching to investigate the effects of after-school services on parental educational anxiety and the underlying regulatory mechanisms. The results indicate that after-school services have a significant positive effect on alleviating parents'educational anxiety. The more these services meet parental demand, the more effective they are in reducing anxiety.Furthermore, the frequency of home-school communication and the degree of standardization in extracurricular education serve as moderating factors between after-school services and parental educational anxiety. To further alleviate parents'educational anxiety, future efforts should focus on expanding the functions of after-school services, enhancing home-school communication, continuing to regulate out-of-school education, and promoting a high degree of equalization in compulsory education.
