"Learning Support"Theory in the Digital Age:A Conceptual and Analytical Framework
In the digital media era, knowledge has shifted from certainty to uncertainty, student populations have become increasingly diverse, and the emphasis on learners and the learning process necessitates new learning theories. The emergence of"learning support"theory is a product of the evolution of higher education practice.A historical review reveals that problem situations, technical tools, and practical experiences constitute the core tenets of"learning support"theory. Therefore,in the context of digital higher education,a theoretical framework for"learning support"should encompass three levels. The first level is the technologically mediated learning environment, which transforms knowledge production and pedagogical practices in universities. The second level focuses on the key providers of learning support:university administrators and faculty, who implement learning support through institutional systems and teaching, respectively. The third level examines the individual characteristics of learners receiving learning support, emphasizing the analysis of their learning needs and individual learning styles.Based on this,a three-level theoretical framework for"learning support",grounded in"environment-agent-structure",is proposed. This theoretical construction necessitates careful consideration of the relationship between technology and the learner to achieve the educational goals of talent development through knowledge innovation.
