Revealing the Historiography via the Lenses of Intellectual History:Significance and Limitations
To explain "how can we understand the history of historiography through the perspective of intellectual history," this article first argues that "the soul of historiography lies in the realm of ideas," and that historical research is a process involving intellectual practices,reflecting the experiences and expressions of intellectual thought.Secondly,examining historiography through the lens of intellectual history does not necessarily imply a consensus on thought determinism.Thirdly,the collaboration between intellectual history and historiography is likely to enrich both fields and encourage interdisciplinary integration.Lastly,this article addresses the question,"What can this collaboration contribute to Western historiography in China?" We believe that when all written history is viewed as the intellectual history of historians,it enables critical analysis of the intellectual landscape of historians.This perspective allows historiography to serve as a tool for nurturing the subjectivity of historians.
