Buddhist Poetry of the Six Dynasties and Its Value in Volume 30 of Guang Hongmingji
With a collection of 131 Buddhist poems by 41 poets, the content of Guang Hongmingji Vol.30 covered from the Jin Dynasty to the Tang Dynasty (A.D.266-A.D.907).Poems are from the Six Dynasties except for seven Tang poems, almost half of the surviving Buddhist poetry of the Six Dynasties.Noticeably, most of these poems had not been abridged before. This volume forms the first extant collection of Buddhist poetry from the Jin Dynasty to Tang Dynasty.Poems in this volume were basically transcribed from famous scholars or literators' books in the Six Dynasties (A.D.222-A.D.589).Thus the original form of these poems were largely preserved. In addition, since Guang Hongmingji was mainly transmitted by The Great Scripture before the Yuan Dynasty, the texts were relatively fixed. However, most scholars since the Ming and Qing dynasties were misled by Wu Weiming's false rewriting of the original text. Therefore,it is necessary to rebuild the Buddhist poetry of the Six Dynasties on the basis of the ten versions of early engravings of Guang Hongmingji.
