Performance Evaluation of Hot Recycled Asphalt Mixtures using Polymer Modified Bitumen
Plant-mixed hot recycling technology is an innovative method for efficiently reclaiming asphalt mixtures(RAP).The key chal-lenge in using recycled materials lies in restoring the properties that have degraded during service. To enhance the performance of hot-re-cycled asphalt pavements and increase the recycling rate of old materials, this study employed SBS-modified asphalt to improve the proper-ties of the recycled asphalt mixture.First, four different asphalt mixtures were prepared based on various asphalt types and RAP contents. Then, their mechanical and road performance were compared through laboratory tests. The results showed that, compared to conventional as-phalt mixtures,hot-recycled asphalt mixtures exhibited significant improvements in high-temperature stability, shear resistance, and de-formation resistance. However, their low-temperature crack resistance, moisture stability, and fatigue performance were somewhat dimin-ished.Nevertheless,the SBS-modified hot-recycled asphalt mixtures outperformed the unmodified hot-recycled mixtures across all per-formance indicators.Further research revealed that when the RAP content reached 30%,the performance of the SBS-modified hot-recy-cled asphalt mixture still met the relevant specification requirements. This finding provides strong support for the application of SBS-modi-fied asphalt in hot recycling technology.
