Successional dynamics of Pinus massoniana forest in Lijiang River watershed,Guilin
The changes of community structures and the main populations' structure in the succession process are analyzed by using the height structure of standing tree and combing with the importance value of every arbor layer. The results show that Pinus massoniana, Phyllostachys pubescens, Liquidambar formosana, Litsea cubeba etc. belong to pioneering populations. Castanopsis fissa, Dio-spyros morrisiana, Engelhardtia roxburghiana, Schima superha, Vaccinium bracteatum, Rhus succedanea etc. are mid-successional populations, and late-successional populations include the populations such as Castanopsis neocavalerie, Neolitsea chuii, Castanopsis fargesii, Castanopsis eyrei etc. The results between classifying the populations into three types and analyzing the population structure in succession are consistent. Pinus massoniana forest is an unstable transitional type in evergreen broad-leaved forest succession process. With the succession of the community proceeding, the status of P. massoniana decrease gradually, and the late-successional populations such as C. fargesii will substitute the dominant status of pioneering populations.
