The annual growth dynamics and quality evaluation of two-year-old container seedling of Pinus flexilis
The annual growth dynamics and morphological indices of two-year-old Pinus flexilis container seedlings of four provenances grown in three substrates were analyzed, and seedling quality evaluations of twelve treatments were analyzed, using principle component and cluster analysis. It was found that diameter at root collar was rapid growing from March to April and May to August. And height of seedlings only grew from April to May during the whole growing season while the growth of diameter at root collar was poor. The annual growth dynamics of P3 provenance was different from the others, as the relative earlier start and stop growth time of diameter at root collar, and the longer growth period of height. According to the results of principle component and cluster and ANOVA analysis of seventeen morphological indices, it was indicated that the qualities of seedlings grown in the M1 substrate were not well, while seedlings of M2 and M3 substrates had better qualities, especially for the M2P1 and M3P2.
