The synergistic effects of aluminum and calcium on the malondialdehyde(MDA) content and ant1ox1dtant enzyme activities such as superoxide dismutase (SOD),catalase (CAT) and peroxidase (POD) of one-year-old Cunninghamia lanceolata seedling leaves were studied by solution culture method. The results indicated that the increase of the calcium ion concentration significantly reduced the MDA content and raised SOD,CAT,POD activities under the high aluminum stress, and the effect was more obvious with the extension of the culture time.On the other hand,MDA content was increased and activities of SOD,CAT was decreased with the rising of the concentration of aluminum. However, the change of POD activity was not obvious. In general, the aluminum toxicity of C.lanceolata seedling leaves were more serious in high aluminum cases than in high calcium cases. Therefore, calcium ion can alleviate aluminum toxicity of C.lanceolata seedling leaves.
