Machilus versicolora S. Lee wood from natural secondary forest were taken for study by measuring and analyzing the macrostructure and microstructure characteristics. The results showed that M. versicolora was diffuse-porous wood and its pores could be seen or slightly seen under naked eye which were mainly solitary pore and short diameter radial multiple pore (usually 2-4), rarely were vessel cluster; and a portion of the vessel had tylosis. Axial parenchyma were visible under naked eye while mainly of them were vascentric, rarely were scanty paratracheal. Wood ray were also visible under naked eye and ray fleck could be seen on the radial section;wood ray were non-storied, generally were typeⅢandⅡ, the single ray was few consist of 2-8 cells;the multi-seriate ray, containing a lot oil cells, were 2-3 cells wide ( mainly 2) , 4-39 cells high( mostly 8-27);intervessel pit mostly alter-nate and opposite pit occasionally appeared;perforation vessel had simple perforation plate while the plate significantly tilted, sca-lariform perforation occasionally appeared;septate wood fiber was found.
