Distribution characteristics and influencing factors of soil active organic carbon in Laoshan,Nanjing
The aim of this study was to understand the distribution characteristics of and factors influencing soil active organic carbon(SOC)in Laoshan,Nanjing.Soil samples from different soil layers(0-10 cm,10-20 cm,and 20-30 cm)were collected from sunny and shady slopes in Laoshan,Nanjing. The total organic carbon(TOC),soluble organic carbon(DOC),easily oxidized organic carbon(EOC),and particulate organic carbon(POC)contents in the soil samples were studied. The results showed that the TOC,DOC,EOC,and POC contents on the shady slopes were generally higher than those on the sunny slopes, but there was no significant difference(P>0.05).The TOC,EOC,and POC in the 0-10 cm soil layer were significantly higher than those in the 10-20 cm and 20-30 cm soil layers(P<0.05).The proportion of each soil active organic carbon component in soil organic carbon was POC>DOC>EOC,which indicated that POC is the main carbon pool in the soil active organic carbon pool in Laoshan,Nanjing. The Pearson correlation indicated that soil density, soil bulk density, total nitrogen,alkaline-hydrolyzable nitrogen, total phosphorus, and available phosphorus were significantly correlated with TOC and POC contents in sunny and shady slopes(P<0.05).We concluded that slope aspect, soil layer, and soil physical and chemical properties are important factors affecting the content of soil active organic carbon. The aspect and soil layers changed the distribution of active organic carbon. The ratio of active organic carbon content to TOC on shady slopes was higher than that on sunny slopes, which positively affected the stability of the soil carbon pool.
