A progeny test plantation of 53 open-pollinated Liquidambar formosana families was established in Shijiao National Forest Farm of Sanming,Fujian Province.Base on data collected from the progeny test ,the variation of growth traits were analyzed ,and su-perior families selection were conducted ,the results were as followes .The average of height ,DBH ground diameter ,volume and round degree were 9.87 m、7.87 cm、11.18 cm、0.0267 m3 and 0.72 respectively ,and the range were 0.90~16.7 m、2.30~15.60 cm、3.20~22.50 cm、0.00072~0.15060 m3 and 0.21~0.97 ,the individual heritability were 0.188、0.211、0.207、0.221 and 0.107 , the family heritability were 0.476、0.550、0.531、0.520 and 0.414.Through comprehensive comparison ,nine excellent families were selected from 53 open pollinated families tested ,the average of height ,DBH and volume was 10.70 m、8.98 cm and 0.0415 m3 re-spectively,the average genetic gain was 2.50%,5.00% and 19.37% respectively,and these families were suitable for promotion and application in Sanming ,Fujian.
