Effect of Dicranopteris pedata Biochar on Soil Physical Properties
In order to investigate the effect of biochar on soil physical properties,an indoor culture method was used to study the effect of Dicranopteris pedata biochar derived from the rare earth mining area at a carbonization temperature of 800℃ with four treatments of control(CK),1%biochar,2%biochar,and 3%biochar on soil bulk density, soil water holding capacity, soil porosity, and soil aggregates. The results showed that the application of biochar significantly reduced soil bulk density(P<0.05),and the reduction increased with the increase of biochar application rate.Biochar had no significant effect on soil porosity and the mass fraction of macroaggregates and microaggregates(P>0.05).The addition of biochar significantly increased soil saturation water holding capacity, field water holding capacity, and capillary water holding capacity(P<0.05),but there was no significant difference in soil water holding capacity among different application rates except for the capillary water holding capacity of 3%which was significantly higher than that of 1%(P<0.05).Given the significant effects of biochar on soil bulk density, saturated water holding capacity, field water holding capacity, and capillary water holding capacity,it also influences soil erosion. The 3%addition rate demonstrated the best results in improving soil water holding capacity and reducing soil bulk density, making it suitable for application in soil and water conservation and agricultural production.
