A Comparative Study of Badminton Reversal Rate Two-Set Rate Under the Old and New Rules——With the Olympic Games 1989-2023.World Championships as an Example
In order to explore the reversal phenomenon over the decades encompassing old and new rules in each individual event of world high-level badminton tournaments and to provide a theoretical basis and reference for in-depth analysis of future tournaments, the present study used chi-square test to validate the differences in the changes of reversal rate and two-set rate in each individual event. The results of all the main event parts of a total of 31 Badminton Individual World Championships from 1989-2023,with a total of 7743 matches, were analyzed by using the literature method and mathematical and statistical methods. The results showed that:the new rule made the reversal rate of all single events increase, among which the doubles events were all significant and above;the new rule made the two-set rate of all single events decrease very significantly;there was no significant change in the reversal rate and two-set rate of each individual event in the two phases within the new rule, except for the men's doubles two-set rate;and women's doubles events were always the single events with the lowest reversal rate and the highest two-set rate.
