The Relationship between Adolescent Peer Support and Physical Education Learning Engagement:a Chain Mediated Relationship Between Self-Esteem and Exercise Self-Efficacy
The level of physical fitness among adolescents is showing a declining trend,which hinders their overall development.This study examines the influence of peer support in physical education classes on the engagement of junior high school students,taking into account the mediating roles of self-esteem and exercise self-efficacy from the perspective of positive psychology.A total of 539 junior high school students were measured using the Peer Sup-port Scale,Exercise Self-Efficacy Scale,Self-Esteem Scale,and UWES-S Engagement Scale.Correlation a-nalysis and structural equation modeling were conducted to analyze the variables.The results of the correlation a-nalysis indicated significant positive correlations among peer support,self-esteem,exercise self-efficacy,and engagement in physical education.The structural equation modeling results revealed that peer support directly pre-dicted engagement in physical education with a direct effect of 0.163.Self-esteem mediated the relationship be-tween peer support and engagement with an indirect effect of 0.073.Exercise self-efficacy also mediated the rela-tionship between peer support and engagement with an indirect effect of 0.236.Furthermore,self-esteem and ex-ercise self-efficacy acted as sequential mediators in the relationship between peer support and engagement with a serial indirect effect of 0.042.
