Do Sport Skills Promote the Cognitive and Non-cognitive Development of College Students?——An Empirical Study Based on the Survey of Public Universities in Beijing
Research purpose:The policy of integration of sports and education required promoting the all-round development of college students and strengthening the education of sport skills.Thus,this research explored wheth-er mastering sport skills promotes the cognitive and non-cognitive development of college students.Methods:this study exploited regression analysis to examine the effects of sport skills on college students'cognitive,non-cogni-tive,academic and social development based on the theory of student engagement and the samples of college students from the Beijing College Students Panel Survey.Results:Sport skills had a significant effect on promoting college students'growth in four aspects consisting of professional knowledge,social knowledge,work ability and social ability.Conclusion:Mastering sport skills is helpful to the cognitive and non-cognitive development of col-lege students,specifically in academic cognition,social cognition,academic non-cognition,and social non-cog-nition.In the context of the integration of sports and education,strengthening and optimizing the education in sport skills is an effective practice for school physical education to combine the function of sport with the value of educa-tion.
