Hippocampal Neuroligin-2 is involved in anxiety-like behavior in a rat model of tri-geminal neuralgia
Objective To investigate the expression of Neuroligin-2 and its expression in astrocytes in the ventral hippo-campus of trigeminal neuralgia(TN)rats. Methods Trigeminal nerve root entry zone(TREZ)chronic compression injury was used to induce TN animal model.Orofacial mechanical pain threshold was measured by von Frey, open field test and elevated plus maze were used to measure autonomic activity.Immunofluorescence staining and Western blot were used to detect the ex-pression of Neuroligin-2 in the ventral hippocampus at 21 days after operation. Results TN rats showed anxiety-like behavior af-ter chronic compression injury with TREZ.A1 astrocytes in the ventral hippocampus were heavily activated and the expression of astrocyte-derived Neuroligin-2 was induced. Conclusion Chronic compression and activation of TREZ in rats can induce increased expression of astrocyte-derived Neuroligin-2,which may be involved in the generation of anxiety-like behavior by chan-ging the ratio of excitatory and inhibitory synapses of hippocampal neurons.
