Effect of Chen Style Tai Chi on Balance Ability in Patients with Chronic Ankle Instability
Objective:To observe the influence of Chen style Tai Chi on the balance ability of patients with chronic ankle insta-bility (CAI). Methods:A total of 52 CAI patients recruited in Fuzhou University City from April to November 2023 were selected and randomly divided into observation group and control group using software generated random number method, with 26 patients in each group. During the study,3 cases fell out of the observation group and 1 case fell out of the control group, resulting in a total of 48 cases completing the study. The control group received the conventional balance training, including single-leg standing on flat ground, standing on a speed ball,single-leg resistance kicking, and descending stairs. The observation group received Chen style Tai Chi training, including movements such as Lanzhayi,Liufeng Sibi,Danbian,Quedilong,Jinji Duli, and Daojuangong. Both groups were trained at a frequency of 3 times per week, for 40 minutes each time, and continue training for 6 weeks. The dynamic balance ability (the forward, inner rear, and outer rear test scores in the Y-balance test),the static balance ability[the average movement ellipse (AME) and the movement length (ML) of the both and single leg standing],and the Cumberland ankle instability tool (CAIT) scores were observed before and after the intervention in two groups. Results:Compared with that before intervention, the inner rear test scores in the Y-balance test and the CAIT scores in both groups significantly improved (P<0.05);the forward and outer rear test scores in the Y-balance test in the observation group significantly increased (P<0.05),while the AME,ML of both legs and the AME of single leg significantly decreased (P<0.05). Compared with the control group, the difference in the forward, inner rear, and outer rear test scores in the Y-balance test in the observation group significantly increased before and after intervention (P<0.05),while the difference of both legs ML significantly increased (P<0.05). Conclusion:Chen style Tai Chi can improve the dynamic and static bal-ance ability as well as the subjective ankle instability of CAI patients.
