The French philosopher Roland Barthes'term"punctum"can be used to analyze the inherent charm of photo-graphic images.This type of"punctum"is ineffective when applied to interpreting the images in the news regarding"the latest archaeological discovery at the Sanxingdui ruins site"in 2021.The new case of graphic communication reveals the limitations of Barthes'research.By analyzing the essential characteristics of the image and further dividing the"punctum"into"primary punctum"and"secondary punctum",this paper not only supplemented the meaning of Barthes'"studium"and emphasized its"surface"orientation,but also provided a new methodological dimension for graphic communication.
