Progress in Bacterial Imaging and Deteciton Using Biomass-based Carbon Quantum Dots
As the more serious bacterial infections and increasing bacterial antibiotic resistance, the development of fast, simple, and sensitive bacterial detection and imaging technologies is the need of the hour.Biomass-based carbon quantum dots obtained from natural raw materials or from low-value waste materials not only retain the excellent properties of semiconductor quantum dots, but also have better biocompatibility, lower cost, and green synthesis methods, which are in line with the future trend of sustainable energy development.Biomass-based carbon quantum dots have already shown great potential in bacterial imaging and detection, but facing with such an abundant biomass, how to select a suitable carbon source to construct a more effective bacterial detection and sterilization method is still a problem. In this review,we summarized the types of biomass-based carbon quantum dots, and the latest development in the application of bacterial imaging and detection. We also analyze the shortcomings of these applications,in order to help for the development of super imaging probes and more effective detection methods.
