A Study of Foreign Travel Documents in the Early and Mid-Qing Dynasty
Although the foreign travel documents of the early and mid-Qing dynasty cannot be compared with those of the late Qing in terms of quantity and scope, they can to some extent reflect the pattern of foreign contacts in the early and mid-Qing dynasty,as well as the Qing people's observation of the world around them.Due to imperial edicts and other reasons, the travel documents of the early and middle Qing dynasty were mainly written by the ambassadors and attendants of the Qing government, covering the Ryukyus,Annam,Korea and other regions. In addition to personal travelogues and poems, these travel documents also dealt with the customs and institutions of foreign countries. The extraterritorial world recorded in such documents was extraterritorial geographically, but still intra-territorial culturally.
