Production,Understanding and Translation of Chinese Humorous Diplomatic Discourse:From the Perspective of Neo-Cognitive Pragmatics
With China's diplomacy showing its own hallmarks of a great country,Chinese humor therein has not only realized the political functions,but also added much color to the affinity.Chinese humorous diplomatic discourse is analyzed,based upon Neo-Cognitive Pragmatics.This analysis depicts cognitive objects'understanding of humor from salience,conceptual blending and mapping.Correspondingly,cognitive subjects utilize perspective shifting,deixis,meme and metaphor or metonymy as their pragmatic strategies.Cognitive subjects and objects can thus be dynamically connected.The mechanisms of Chinese diplomatic production and understanding will also be applied to the translation so as to test and verify the value.The results show:1)Utilizing Neo-Cognitive Pragmatics,the research of the interaction between cognitive subjects and cognitive objects can directly and fundamentally mirror the mechanisms of production and understanding of humor.Especially for Chinese diplomats,the pragmatic strategies can be learnt as a core so as to effectively produce humor;2)Due to different social and cultural backgrounds,Chinese humor has largely been ignored during translation.Translation techniques like adding extra meme or deixis can ensure similar understanding between source and target readers or listeners.
