In 1915,Yao Yonggai taught at the Zhengzhi School,where he expounded on Mencius for his students and imparted the literary techniques of the Tongcheng School.His interpretation of Mencius reflects his political views,which can be summarized in four aspects:the idea of the world as a public domain,the adaptability to changing circumstances,rule by elites,and the consciousness of both family and country.These views embody the characteristics of both adherence to principles and innovation.
