基于语料库的中译外国家翻译实践英译文本可读性研究

本文运用数字人文科学的研究方法,从可读性视角对中译外国家翻译实践英译文本进行计量风格考察,所用的观察语料为中华学术外译英译文本,参照语料为英语原创学术文本.研究表明,在MWL、ASW、MSL、PWP、HWP和NOSW等指标上,中译外国家翻译实践中华学术外译英译文本难于英语原创学术文本.回归分析显示中华学术外译英译文本与参照语料库文本的差异主要在词汇层面.基于Python使用的文本可读性计量工具Textstat的分析结果显示,中华学术外译英译文本的Kincaid_Grade、Dale-Chall和SMOG三种可读性指标值分别为13.49、10.40、15.00,高于参照语料库的值13.17、9.34、14.74,表明理解中华学术外译英译文本需要接受更多教育,即中华学术外译英译文本的阅读难度大于参照语料库,可读性低于参照语料库.显著性检验表明中华学术外译英译文本与参照语料库文本在FRE和Dale-Chall可读性指标值上存在显著差异.本研究认为作为中译外国家翻译实践的中华学术外译项目在实施中应在语言上坚持目标语读者接受导向.
Abstract
Using the method of digital humanities,this paper studies the stylometric feature of the English translations funded by state translation program from the perspective of readability.We used the English translations of Chinese academic works as our observed corpus and the original English academic texts as the reference corpus.Our research shows that the English texts translated from Chinese academic works funded by the state translation program are more difficult to understand than original English academic texts in terms of such indices as MWL,ASW,MSL,PWP,HWP and NOSW.Regression analysis shows that the significant difference between Chinese academic translations and original English academic texts is mainly at the lexical level.Textstat,a text readability measurement tool of Python,shows that the values of Kincaid_Grade,Dale-Chall and SMOG readability indices of Chinese academic translation texts are 13.49,10.40 and 15.00,respectively,higher than those of reference corpus(13.17,9.34 and 14.74),which indicates that more education is needed to understand Chinese academic translation texts,namely,the reading difficulty of Chinese academic translation texts is greater than that of the reference corpus,and the readability is lower than that of the reference corpus.The significance test shows that there is a significant difference in readability indices between Chinese academic translation and the text of the reference corpus in terms of FRE and Dale-Chall values.We hold that as projects funded by the state translation program,the Chinese academic translation should adhere to the principle of target-language reader orientation at the linguistic level.
