The textile cleaning process is one of the significant sources of fiber fragment pollution. The release of fiber fragments during household textile washing and drying processes and their potential impacts on the environment and human health were elucidated. This study also analyzed the effects of the washing and drying conditions(e.g.temperature,time,water volume and spin speed)on fiber fragment release, finding that increased temperature, enhanced mechanical ac-tion,and prolonged washing times all increased fiber fragment release. It is pointed out that ex-isting detection methods lacked standardization, affecting the comparability and repeatability of re-search results. Therefore, this study emphasized the importance of developing sensitive and efficient fiber fragment detection methods to reduce fiber fragment release, and proposed innovative direc-tions for functional textile development and fiber fragment interception techniques. These meas-ures are critical for mitigating microplastic pollution and ensuring public health.
